Relationship Counselling

Marriage and relationship counselling are not the only ways to achieve change in your relationships. Individual counselling can also be effective in helping you resolve your issues.

Relationship Counselling

Do you relate to any of the following statements?

“We argue over the same things again and again.”

“I feel suffocated by her neediness.”

“When we have an argument he refuses to talk about it later.”

“All the trust in our relationship has been destroyed. How can we come back from that?”

“We are more like room mates than a couple.”

How Couple Counselling Can Help…

Great relationships don’t just happen, they need to be cultivated. Sometimes this requires extra support from someone outside of your family, friendship circle.

♦   Learn honest, respectful communication, so you both feel valued and heard.

♦   Re-establish trust and enjoy the closeness that comes from a committed relationship.

♦   Develop more love and intimacy and reignite sexual passion.

♦   Manage conflict in a positive way, so it strengthens your relationship.

♦   Develop meaning, purpose, and vision in your relationship and your own life

What to expect in relationship counselling

In our first couple of sessions we cover the history of your relationship and identify your concerns. Sometimes this involves an online assessment for each of you, and an individual session each to help us better understand what is happening in the relationship.

This initial process takes one to two weeks (depending on your available time). It helps us establish strong goals, and a plan tailored to your needs.

My approach as a couple counsellor

Relationship counselling is very different to individual counselling, and requires specialist training. I primarily utilise the Gottman method. Because they have put 1000s of hours into researching and identifying the issues that destroy relationships and proven strategies to build strong healthy relationships.

In addition to Gottman I work with Relational Living Therapy. RLT  recognises that character is changeable, and people can learn new ways of responding to improve their relationship. We identify and address issues from family of origin and past trauma that are contributing to dysfunctional patterns of behaviour in the relationship.

Embracing new beginnings…

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Kerry on and off for three years. She guided me through the end of a long-term relationship, helping me gain clarity and insight. Kerry has a beautiful warmth and serves as an amazing sounding board.

The tools she taught me about relationships not only helped me find a wonderful new partner but also equipped me to build a healthy and communicative relationship.

I can’t express enough how much Kerry and her counseling have changed my life. Her approach to couples counseling is practical and eye-opening. I highly recommend her to everyone and anyone!
