Grief Counselling
Grief Counselling
Are you struggling to move forward after a loss? The experience can evoke distressing emotions; anger, denial, sadness, despair, guilt, confusion, disbelief, numbness or fear. Secondary losses – Grief is often exacerbated by other losses. These might include loss of income, home, other relationships, sense of freedom, meaning, intimacy, independence, mental health, certainty, and sense of self and identity.
All change is loss – When we think about grief we tend to associate it with the loss of a loved one or beloved pet – bereavement. And this is certainly one of the most distressing experiences any of us will ever have in our life time. However, there are other unwelcome life experiences that can also turn your life inside-out. Such as, miscarriage, job loss / business failure, relationship breakdown, moving, and in 2020 the impact of Covid-19. The list goes on.
There are also the everyday life changes we experience. Most of the time we adapt to them. But sometimes they blindside us. Or we experience too many in a short period of time and like the game Jenga the last block threatens to topple us.
If you are not coping with your grief, feel unsupported or are experiencing complicated grief its time to ask for help. Counselling can support you through the process of transitioning from life before your loss, to a different way of living – with a renewed sense of hope and meaning in your life. It’s not about getting over the loss, it’s about how you integrate it into your life moving forward.
